Taichung Animal Shelter

Brief Introduction

Promulgated on October 10^th, 2001 and established under the Animal Protection Act, Taichung Animal Shelter takes in animals given up by citizens and provides stray animals with a suitable space. With an area of 3,300 pings, Taichung Animal Shelter is equipped with exhibition areas of tamed animals, rare fowls, and aquatic animals, which serve as a space for outdoor instruction or the citizens’ recreation spot. Correct concepts of animal protection and animal raising are given here and animal adoption is also encouraged to solve stray animal problems in Taichung City.

Taichung Animal Shelter is divided into four areas.

1. Adoption Area: Here are stray dogs captured in Taichung City;
         only the healthy and tamed ones will be selected for adoption.

2. Animal Exhibition Areas: There are aquatic animals, rare fowls,
         and tamed animals, which are totally 30 species (including black
         belly sheep, Formosan sika deer, ostriches, rabbits, blue pea
         fowls, white pea fowls, ring-necked pheasants, golden chickens,
         yellow golden chickens, turkeys, pigeons, red- eared turtles,
         mallards, tsaiya ducks, Chinese Goose, Australian Black Swan, 
         and etc.)

3. Administration Instruction Area: Administration Office, trainings on
         animal protection and wildlife, guide services. Providing medical
          remedies, sterilization surgeries, animal behavior estimation, 
          bathing, hairdressing, and mercy killing.

There are four main services offered: stray animal adoption, animals
     given up for adoption, lost pet reclaim, and guide service. Devoting
     ourselves to stray animal adoption and finding a sweet home for
     them have been our goals to achieve.

Open Time:10:00~12:00 ; 13:30~16:00, off on  Wednesday, and Sunday.

For Dog Adoption: 10:00~12:00; 13:30~16:00 every day except
     Sunday.

Driving Directions

1. Go to Mt. Dadu along Yun Chun E. Rd., and you will arrive
          Taichung Animal Shelter about 500M after Taichung Prison and
          Wan Gao Liao.

2. Go to Tunhai University along Taichung Gang Rd. and turn left at
          Yo Yuan S.   Rd., and you will arrive Taichung Animal Shelter
          about 1km after Motor  Vehicles Taichung Station.
